Transforming Stress: How EFT Works
Some people are prone to living in a way that creates stress for them – they try to do too much in too short a time. Others seem programmed to experiencing ordinary events negatively—and thus stressfully. No matter what the cause, we all know that stress can take an enormous physical toll resulting in such problems as insomnia, digestive issues, HBP, asthma, weight gain, pain and illness.
So what’s the solution? At the very least, when we are under unavoidable stress, we can stop heaping unnecessary criticism on ourselves and, instead, treat ourselves in a kind and gentle way. We can also use EFT. Understand that at its most basic, EFT—tapping on specific acupressure points while focused on an issue—is a relaxation technique. (click here for EFT Protocol)
When we are upset, the limbic system of the brain, especially the Amygdala, is “aroused”. If we then focus on the specific stressor and at the same time perform EFT for a few moments, the Amygdala calms down and, amazingly, we no longer feel the distress. The limbic system cannot be both upset and relaxed at the same time.
EFT feels magical for in-the-moment stress. Chronic stress also responds well to EFT, but it’s not a one-minute fix. In a newsletter article about using EFT for stress, Dr. Mercola says, “It is VERY important to realize that self-treatment for serious issues is dangerous and NOT recommended. It is dangerous because it will allow you to falsely conclude that EFT does not work when nothing could be further from the truth. For serious or complex issues you need someone to guide you through the process as there is an incredible art to this process and it typically takes years of training to develop the skill to tap on deep-seated, significant issues.” |
